From Beaumaris Juniors to Premier Cricket Final

A proud day for Beaumaris Cricket Club as two of our own, Ed Newman and Matt Hennig, take the field for St Kilda against Melbourne in the Premier Cricket Final today at the Albert Cricket Ground.

What makes this even more special is that both Ed and Matt are Beaumaris juniors. They came through our club, developed their games in our program, and now they are performing on one of the biggest stages in Victorian cricket. It is a terrific reflection of the talent being built at Beaumaris and of the strength of our junior pathway, where young players are given the chance to learn, compete, grow and aspire to higher honours.

Ed Newman, now St Kilda CC Captain, has led the Saints brilliantly all season. He has scored 595 runs at 49.48, and in the semi-final played a vital captain’s innings of 77 to steady St Kilda after they were in trouble at 4/64. That is leadership, composure and class under pressure.

Matt Hennig has also produced a superb season with the ball, taking 37 wickets at just 21.46, including 3 invaluable wickets in the semi-final against Footscray. His pace, impact and ability to strike in key moments have been a major part of St Kilda’s run to the final.

For Beaumaris, seeing two former juniors on this stage is about more than just individual success. It shows the kind of club we are building and the standard we are striving for. We want our young players to know that great things can come from strong coaching, hard work, good teammates, a love of the game and a club environment that backs its people. Ed and Matt are wonderful examples of that.

They also remind us of something important about our club culture: once a Shark, always a Shark. No matter where cricket takes our players, they are always part of the Beaumaris family, and the whole club will be right behind them today.

With Ed and St Kilda chasing back-to-back premierships, and Matt charging in on the big stage, all Sharks will be watching with pride.

All the Sharks are in behind our two Sharks. Once a Shark, always a Shark. Go well, Ed and Matt.
